Don’t Let Him Do It Anymore

Don’t let them take a mental picture of you.

May they have power over your freedom.

Resist meeting other people’s expectations.
To be predictable just because it’s what others need.
To be self-conscious just to please.

Don’t give them that power.

Because that is giving them your future.
It is bequeathing all that you can become.
It is giving up in life.
It is losing.

Delimit the limits.
Be with the person you want.
With your parents or your partner or with strangers.

Because limiting how far they can go is not loving them less.
It is loving you more.

Do not tolerate being blackmailed in the name of love.
Make you feel bad for not being what they expect.
Because you don’t owe anyone anything.
You do not have a debt to anyone.
You don’t belong to anyone.

Because this is your time here.
Your chance.
Your existence
And your days.
To inhabit them.
The way you want.
